Before I decided, or perhaps discovered, that an academic career was for me, I explored several career options, including a short time in the British Royal Marines, working as a general laborer in construction, then training and working several years as a bricklayer.

Inspired by construction site discussions on philosophy and life, I went to university to learn more. I took a degree in social sciences at “South Bank Poly” (now known as London South Bank University) and a social work qualification at Croydon College.

After working as a social worker in the UK and then Canada, I went back to school again for a Master’s in Social Work at York University (Canada), followed by a PhD at the University of Toronto, after which I began my academic career.

I am still not done with learning, most recently I have been taking courses in theology, both for credit and also auditing.
